Discover Tom Crean in your local library

Over the past few weeks I’ve been busy contacting county librarians across Ireland. My goal was to have both titles made available through local libraries.

After informing them all that my biography of Crean brought about official revisions to Tom Crean’s story in March of this year and alerting them to the new information that now expands on what was previously known about his life, I have been left delighted at the response. To date, I have confirmation that 23 of 26 counties will be stocking both titles in their branches. The remaining counties, I’m sure, will do similar in time.

I have to thank all the librarians and county librarians I have been in contact with, all of whom were kind and accommodating to my request for them to stock the books.

The story of Tom Crean is so inspirational to all ages and young ones in particular warm to a hero whose name will stay with them throughout their lives. It’s important to ensure that everyone has easy access to the story I want to share and the best way of achieving that was through the libraries.

To offer a little bit of advice before popping down to your local branch, please give them a call to discover whether the new stock has arrived and that it’s not out on loan and is available to borrow.

Crean’s epic tale is one of international appeal so I’m hoping to do similar in the USA and the UK – it’s a massive undertaking but I won’t be shying away from it.

Another mission of mine is to work to replace a number of teaching resources that are currently repeating the inaccuracies that have been present for many years and I’m making some progress there too. I will update when I have more to tell on this.

Discover Tom Crean’s Story Revealed As Never Before

To learn more about this incredible man I’ve written a fully-referenced account that in March 2021 gave rise to substantial revisions to Crean’s story in the Dictionary of Irish Biography.

The book addresses a number of inaccuracies previously written about him and it reveals his incredible life with events and new stories that have never before been published.

For children, aged 6-10 years-old, it was important for me to chronicle Tom Crean’s story for the younger generation. The book ‘Tom The Mighty Explorer’, is based on the research I undertook for the grown-ups biography. Like the adult version, it’s generating excellent reviews from those who’ve read the print version or who have listened to the audiobook.
