‘Crean – The Extraordinary Life of an Irish Hero’ is the most comprehensive study ever written into the life of one of Irelands great national treasures – Tom Crean. This biography, available as a collector’s item, second edition, is labelled a Centenary version to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Tom Crean’s retirement from the Navy in 1920. The research undertaken to transcribe information to Tom Crean’s biography, gave rise to major revisions of Crean’s article entry in the Royal Irish Academy’s Dictionary of Irish Biography. The changes were applied on March 17th 2021.

The remaining stock of this Kerry-made print is limited. Each copy purchased arrives with a free custom designed bookmark (2 design options available including one with a Christmas greeting). Comprising 55,000 words, 3 specifically designed maps, 31 related news-clippings, 6 photographs, 4 colour illustrations, this 8 chapter biography of Tom Crean is a meticulously researched study into the life of the Kerry-born explorer, Tom Crean.

A fully referenced volume, the book covers the life of Crean before, during and after his three expeditions to Antarctica. The back matter features further Crean related facts and hypothesises over what may have happened had Crean been a member of Scotts final Polar Party.

Described by Dr, Jennifer FitzGerald a retired Senior Lecturer of Queen’s University, Belfast, as “a carefully documented, well-organized volume that offers the reader a full and gripping history of an unassuming Irishman”,
