Listen

Orcas are some of the biggest and cleverest animals living in the ocean around Antarctica. They swim together in family groups called pods, and they "talk" to each other using clicks, whistles, and calls that travel a long way underwater.

Did you know? Every pod of orcas has its own special set of sounds — a bit like each family having its own way of talking!

Orcas are very curious animals. Sometimes they would swim close to the ice to take a peek at the explorers and their dogs standing above!

Try It Yourself Orcas use clicks to find their way underwater, like a game of echo! Try closing your eyes and clicking your tongue — can you tell how close you are to a wall just by listening?
